Guide for Authors

Author’s Guide

Sharif Journal of Civil Engineering (SJCE) announces its intention of publishing the research achievements of the academic elite in various civil engineering subfields in the form of academic articles.

The received articles are first reviewed by the editor-in-chief in terms of content and upon gaining initial approval, the article format is checked by an expert in charge based on the journal’s suggested standard format. In the next step, a commitment form is sent to the author(s) and the paper will be sent for the process of peer review.

It should be noted that the person who registered on the journal website, irrespective of his/her academic position/degree, is held responsible for correspondence in all stages, and he/she is the only one who has access to the username and password.

In case students sign up on the site, it is mandatory that they have their supervisor’s cover letter for future correspondence; otherwise, the reviewing process will stop.

Note: Once the commitment form is filled out, it is not possible to make any alteration to the author(s)’ names and affiliations.

Manuscript preparation guidelines:

Manuscript:

  • The content should be written in two columns with a line length of 8.5 cm and font of Nazanin Point 12 in Microsoft Office Word. Of note, the least and utmost number of pages should be 7 and 15, respectively, with proper line spacing and page numbering.
  • The tile page includes the title, authors’ names and affiliation, corresponding author information, both Persian and English abstracts containing 130-150 and 300-350 words, respectively (written in Times font 12), and both Persian and English keywords (4 to 7 words).
  • The rest of the paper components including the introduction as well as main headings and subheadings should be determined and numbered in sequence.
  • All the formulae and relations should be written in the MathType. Keep in mind that all of the required terms and numbers in the charts, figures, and tables should be written in Persian.

Figures and Tables:

  1. Given that the layout design of the pages demands columns of 8.5 cm, it is required that the original figures and charts be inserted in the manuscript in the width range of 8 to 16 cm on the scale of Pixels/Inch, frame (border) thickness of 8 px, and chart line of 6 px. Of note, all files should be prepared using Photoshop software with the resolution of 600 in a white background in either JPG or Tif format and then, be uploaded via complementary files. Multi-part figures should be sent together.
  2. Avoid using Latin words and terms that have common Persian equivalents inside the figures, tables, and text. In case using a Latin word is inevitable, its English equivalent should also be included. The titles of the tables should be inserted above them while those of figures and diagrams should be written below them.
  3. The references of the figures and tables included in the manuscript should be marked with a gray background.

Sources:

All the sources used in the text should be numbered consecutively from number one written in brackets []. Make sure that all sources used throughout the research process should be written in English in the Reference section.

The Persian references should also be translated into English and the word (in Persian) should be written in parentheses at the end of each reference. Of note, the year of publications should also be translated into the Gregorian calendar.

To simplify, some examples of sources in the form of articles, books, and article collections are given below:
